In
the following tables we are going to see the main derivational suffixes used
when we want to create a verb form.
It
is compulsory to remind you that as we stated in the introductory article
“Suffixes role in English”, derivational suffixes do always change the
class or subclass of the word that implements the suffix.
The table will provide you the suffix used, meaning of
the suffix, the word in its grammatical function of origin and finally the verb
created after adding the suffix.
En
las siguientes tablas vamos a ver los principales sufijos derivacionales usados
cuando queremos crear una forma verbal.
Es
obligatorio recordarte que como te indicamos en el artículo introductorio “El
papel de los sufijos en Inglés”, los sufijos derivacionales siempre cambian
la clase o subclase de la palabra que implementa el sufijo.
La tabla te proporcionará el sufijo usado, el significado
del sufijo, la palabra en su función gramatical de origen y por último el verbo
creado tras añadir el sufijo.

*We use “fat” as a noun (meaning obesity or corpulence
for example) and not as an adjective (meaning large or thick for example).
Although in British the most widely spread ending is” –ise”, the ending”
–ize” (used in the U.S.A) is considered as correct also in the British Grammar.
However, it doesn’t happen the same vice versa and American English just
accepts the “-ize” ending.
*Usamos “fat” como un nombre (significando obesidad o corpulencia
por ejemplo) y no como un adjetivo (significando grande o grueso por ejemplo).
Aunque en Británico la terminación más ampliamente extendida es “-ise”, la
terminación “-ize” (empleada en U.S.A) está considerada también correcta en la
Gramática Británica.
Sin embargo, no sucede lo mismo a la inversa y el Inglés Americano sólo
acepta la terminación “-ize”.
